A sailing paradise with a rich boat building heritage
Derived from the Carib language “Kayryouacou,” its name beautifully translates to the “Isle of Reefs,” aptly describing the abundant and untouched coral reefs that grace its azure waters. Within easy reach, you’ll discover world-class coral reefs and dive sites, creating an underwater paradise for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts, as well as the perfect setting for sailing adventures and yacht charters.
Boasting a centuries-old boat-building heritage, Carriacou’s maritime history remains a beautiful part of its culture. Introduced by Scottish shipwrights banished from Scotland, combined with African ingenuity, Carriacou’s boat building skills and tradition is second to none in the Caribbean. This craft passed down from father to son for generations has shaped the island’s economy and way of life for 350 years. Shipyards, concentrated in the Windward area of Carriacou, craft a wide variety of boats, from fishing vessels to schooners serving the needs of Caribbean communities across the Eastern Caribbean. Today, Carriacou’s residents, known as Kayaks, ardently preserve the tradition of wooden boat building in the Caribbean. Their commitment ensures this rich maritime heritage endures, connecting the island’s past with the present.
L’Esterre Bay
Land O’Reef is ideally situated at the end of L’Esterre Bay, a picturesque stretch of blue and powder-white coastline on the island of Carriacou. Our exceptional development site occupies the largest parcel of available beachfront land in Carriacou. It features a pyramid-shaped hill, a 1-mile-long white sand beach (the plot is surrounded by beaches on all three sides), and captivating islets and dive sites just offshore.
Once a 17th-18th-19th Century Almonds producing Estate known as St. Louis Estate, our prime beachfront property is nestled at the base of Mount St. Louis. Guests at Land O’Reef can embark on hikes towards its peak, where breathtaking views of L’Esterre Bay to the north and to south the dream anchorage of Tyrell Bay await.
Enriched by the captivating legend of nearby Point Cistern, a reputedly sacred site cherished by native Carib and Arawak peoples, our location also exudes an aura of mystique and deep cultural significance. With its natural carved-out rock cistern, filled with cool, refreshing rainwater believed to possess magical healing powers, L’Esterre Bay still carries the echoes of ancient beliefs and reverence for nature that have been passed down through generations.

In total Among them are 16 Bali inspired private hillside villa residences, each spanning 1600+ sq. ft., providing captivating views and a serene retreat, along with 33 Bali-inspired hill-sde and beach level rental cabanas a swell as 19 overwater sea-bungalows with glass floors, allowing you to view the man made mini coral reef habitats under each bungalow. We want you to wake up to the sight and gentle sounds of the sea. Our private residence villas are available for exclusive purchase via whole ownership or equity- share fractionals with a leaseback option to the hotel/resort.
